What to expect when playing U.S. college rifle:

Spring Semester:

• Rifle is a Winter sport, with competitions held half way through the U.S. school year.
• Competitions are usually held between October and March.
• Team members compete in small-bore and air rifle events.

Fall Semester:

• The off-season for college rifle is between the end of the Spring semester and the beginning of the Fall semester.

 Rifle programs participate under two governing bodies of intercollegiate athletics.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate rifle.

Division I

• Currently sponsor 18 men’s rifle programs
• 3.6 full rifle scholarships are available per men’s rifle team

Division II

• Currently sponsor 2 men’s rifle programs
• 3.6 full rifle scholarships available

Division III

• Currently sponsor 3 men’s rifle programs
• Financial aid is available but is not considered athletic scholarship

NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association

The NJCAA endorses one division of men’s collegiate rifle.

• Currently sponsor 3 men’s rifle program
• Financial aid is available but is not considered athletic scholarship
