What to expect when playing U.S. college football:

Fall Semester:
  • Football is a Fall sport, played in the first half of the U.S. school year.
  • Games are usually played between early-September and late-November.
  • You can expect to play approximately 10 games in an average season.
Spring Semester:
  • The spring semester is the off-season for college football.
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during spring.
  • In addition to training, scrimmages may be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming fall season.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of collegiate football.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 254 college football programs
  • 85 full football scholarships are available per FBS football team
  • 63 full football scholarships are available per FCS football team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 169 football programs
  • 36 full scholarships available per men’s college football team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 248 football programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered football scholarship
NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA endorses one division of men’s collegiate football

  • Currently sponsor 87 football programs
  • 24 full football scholarships available per men’s college football team
NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association

The NJCAA endorses one division of men’s collegiate football.

  • Currently sponsor 68 college football programs
  • 85 full football scholarships available across all divisions
CCCAA – Californian Community College Athletic Association

The CCCAA endorses one division of men’s collegiate football.

  • Currently sponsor 68 men’s football programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered football scholarship
