What to expect when playing U.S. college soccer:

Fall Semester:
  • Soccer is a Fall sport, played in the first half of the U.S. school year.
  • Games are usually between late August and early December.
  • You can expect to play approximately 20-25 soccer games in an average season.
  • You will also be practicing up to 20 hours per week during the season.
Spring Semester:
  • The Spring semester is the off-season for soccer.
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during the Spring.
  • Your schedule will feature solo or small group practices.
  • Weight lifting and conditioning will be required in addition to technical training in preparation for the upcoming fall season.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate soccer.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 204 men’s soccer programs
  • 9.9 full soccer scholarships are available per men’s soccer team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 213 men’s soccer programs
  • 9 full soccer scholarships available per men’s soccer team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 416 men’s soccer programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered soccer scholarship
NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA endorses one division of men’s collegiate soccer.

  • Currently sponsor 188 men’s soccer programs
  • 12 full soccer scholarships available per men’s soccer team
NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association

The NJCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate soccer.

  • Currently sponsor 223 men’s soccer programs across three divisions
  • 24 full soccer scholarships available across all divisions
