What to expect when playing U.S. college lacrosse:

Spring Semester:
  • Lacrosse is a Spring sport, played in the second half of the U.S. school year.
  • Games are usually played between mid-February and late-May.
  • You can expect to play approximately 15-20 games in an average season.
  • You will also be practicing up to 20 hours per week during the season.
Fall Semester:
  • The Fall is the off-season for lacrosse.
  • You can expect to practice 8 hours a week during the majority of Fall.
  • In addition to training, 1-2 practice games will be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming spring season.

 Lacrosse programs nationwide participate in all levels of intercollegiate athletics.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate lacrosse.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 115 women’s lacrosse programs
  • 12 full lacrosse scholarships are available per men’s lacrosse team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 111 women’s lacrosse programs
  • 9.9 full lacrosse scholarships available
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 285 women’s lacrosse programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered athletic scholarship
NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate lacrosse.

  • Currently sponsor 18 women’s lacrosse programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered athletic scholarship
NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association

The NJCAA endorses one division of women’s collegiate lacrosse.

  • Currently sponsor 20 women’s lacrosse programs
  • 20 full lacrosse scholarships available
