What to expect when competing in U.S. college volleyball: Fall Semester: Volleyball is a Fall sport, played in the first half of the U.S. school year. Games are usually played between August and December. You can expect to play approximately 25-30 games in an average season. Spring Semester: The Spring semester is the off-season for volleyball. You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during spring. In addition to individual training, strength and conditioning sessions will be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming season. NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate volleyball. Division I Currently sponsor 334 women’s college volleyball programs 12 full volleyball scholarships are available per women’s college volleyball team Division II Currently sponsor 298 women’s college volleyball programs 8 full volleyball scholarships available per women’s college volleyball team Division III Currently sponsor 437 women’s college volleyball programs Financial aid is available but is not considered volleyball scholarship NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate volleyball. Currently sponsor 222 women’s college volleyball programs 8 full volleyball scholarships available per women’s college volleyball team NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association The NJCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate volleyball.
