What to expect when competing in U.S. college wrestling: Fall Semester: Wrestling is a Winter sport, events are mid way through the first half of the U.S. school year. Events are usually between November and March. You can expect to compete in approximately 15-20 events in an average season. Spring Semester: The Spring semester is the off-season for wrestling after March. You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week after the season in complete. NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association The NCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate wrestling. Division I Currently sponsor 76 men’s college wrestling programs 9.9 full wrestling scholarships are available per men’s college wrestling team Division II Currently sponsor 59 men’s college wrestling programs 9 full wrestling scholarships available per men’s college wrestling team Division III Currently sponsor 105 men’s college wrestling programs Financial aid is available but is not considered water polo scholarship NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics The NAIA endorses one division of men’s collegiate wrestling. Currently sponsor 59 men’s college wrestling programs 8 full wrestling scholarships available NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association The NJCAA endorses one division of men’s collegiate wrestling.
