What to expect when competing in U.S. college volleyball: Fall Semester: Volleyball is a Fall sport, played in the first half of the U.S. school year. Games are usually played between August and December. You can expect to play approximately 25-30 games in an average season. Spring Semester: The Spring semester is the off-season for volleyball. You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during spring. In addition to individual training, strength and conditioning sessions will be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming season. NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association The NCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate volleyball. Division I Currently sponsor 22 men’s college volleyball programs 4.5 full volleyball scholarships are available per men’s college volleyball team Division II Currently sponsor 20 men’s college volleyball programs 4.5 full volleyball scholarships available per men’s college volleyball team Division III Currently sponsor 93 men’s college volleyball programs Financial aid is available but is not considered volleyball scholarship NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics The NAIA endorses one division of men’s collegiate volleyball. Currently sponsor 35 men’s college volleyball programs 8 full volleyball scholarships available per men’s college volleyball team NJCAA – National Junior College Athletic Association The NJCAA endorses three divisions of men’s collegiate volleyball.
