What to expect when competing in U.S. college beach volleyball:

Spring Semester:
  • Beach Volleyball is a Spring sport, played in the second half of the U.S. school year.
  • Events are usually played between January and May.
  • You can expect to play approximately 35-40 events in an average season.
Fall Semester:
  • The Fall semester is the off-season for beach volleyball but some players play the indoor volleyball season.
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during spring.
  • In addition to individual training, strength and conditioning sessions will be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming season.

 Women’s Beach Volleyball programs all over the U.S. participate under all governing bodies and divisions.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate beach volleyball.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 55 women’s college beach volleyball programs
  • 6 full beach volleyball scholarships are available per women’s college beach volleyball team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 11 women’s college beach volleyball programs
  • 5 full beach volleyball scholarships available per women’s college beach volleyball team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 3 women’s college beach volleyball programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered beach volleyball scholarship
NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate beach volleyball.

  • Currently sponsor 4 women’s college beach volleyball programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered beach volleyball scholarship
CCCAA – Californian Community College Athletic Association

The CCCAA endorses one division of women’s collegiate beach volleyball.

  • Currently sponsor 26 women’s beach volleyball programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered beach volleyball scholarship
